Summer is here, and with it, a brand new FBS employee spotlight! Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Vianey Chavarria Borrego, manager of the Billing and Operating teams within BFS.

Vianey has a bachelor’s in Retail Merchandising from The University of Texas at Austin, and an MBA from St. Edward's University. Vianey began working at UT Austin in May 2013, beginning with a UTemps position in BFS. After six months, Vianey was hired as a permanent employee, joining on as an Accounting Technician. From there, it’s been onward and upward for Vianey – a promotion in 2014 to Accountant II, joining the BFS-Billing team as a Financial Analyst in 2015, and serving as Finance Manager before moving into her current role managing the Billing and Operating teams. Congratulations on an incredible journey! It’s absolutely inspiring.

In Vianey’s current role, she serves as the financial contact for UEM, assists in processing and overseeing the billing needs of more than 12 FAS units – as well as operational needs of more than 30 units! She also does other key tasks like resolving vendor inquiries, managing staff, exploring opportunities for efficiencies, collaborating with Technology Resources (TRecs) to enhance the BFS Tracker application, and more. There’s no doubt about it – no day, week, month, or even year are ever the same!

Vianey is particularly proud of the project management work performed in a software implementation project for a UEM vendor, fully customizing the software to combine complex processes – including data validation, billing, and reporting functions – all in one place! Vianey has also enjoyed collaborating with TRecs to design and implement a Billing menu in BFS Tracker, making IDTs between campus departments a smooth and seamless process.

For fun, Vianey enjoys spending time with family partaking in Austin-y activities, like enjoying a day at Zilker Park, exploring delicious restaurants, and walking around Lady Bird Lake. Zilker Park is also home to Austin Sunshine Camps, where Vianey has volunteered with their summer carnival camps. (Um, amazing?!) You can also find Vianey watching ‘80s and ‘90s flicks, completing puzzles, adding succulents and houseplants to her collection, trying out new recipes, and traveling – Vianey just got back from chilly San Diego! (Jealous.)

Vianey is proud to work for BFS because the important work they do in collaboration with fellow FBS departments has allowed them to increase service with client departments across campus.

We’re so thankful for the invaluable work Vianey provides to BFS, FBS, and FAS – Vianey is a true asset, and we’re so grateful for the opportunity to work with and learn from her.
