What a privilege it is to shine the FBS Employee Spotlight this month on Connie Calvin – BFS’s very own financial officer!

Connie began her financial career while serving in the U.S. Air Force, where her first role in the service was as a long-roll mission film processor for the U2 and SR-71 reconnaissance aircraft. A passion for numbers led to cross-training in accounting and finance, and she obtained a bachelor’s degree in finance from Hawaii Pacific University. After retiring from the Air Force, Connie spent time with her family, completed her MBA with honors – Sigma Beta Delta – from Concordia University Texas, and co-owned a cloud migration services company with her late husband.

As BFS’s financial officer, Connie works to bridge the gap between departmental operations, our financial systems and processes, and the needs of the University. She uses her unique and strategic skillset to create efficiencies; most recently, she worked collaboratively with BFS and HRSS to streamline the merit process using Microsoft Excel’s Power Query tool.

Connie is an avid gardener and planted beets, carrots, cucumbers and spinach for the season. She has a wide variety of pollinator and hummingbird plants, and she enjoys working with her hands – during cooler months, she breaks out the woodworking tools to make objects for around the house. A Maryland girl, Connie loves seafood! She also enjoys volunteering, traveling (Scotland is a particular favorite), listening to audiobooks, and like many in this pandemic environment, she spends a little too much time binge-watching shows on various streaming platforms.

When asked why she’s proud to work for FBS, Connie answered, “I really appreciate what everyone I meet brings to the table in terms of their skills and knowledge. I’ve not encountered too many people inside of FBS who haven’t been willing to help when they can, or work collaboratively. I think that says a lot about our leadership and their professionalism.”

We’re so lucky to have you, Connie. Thank you for all that you do to make FBS such a wonderful place to work.
