It’s over 100° in Texas, which means summer is here. Grab the kids or load up the pups- it is time to cool off with a dip in one of the local Austin area pools or swimming holes. Here’s a list of some of the best! Check the links for rules, hours and admission fees. 

Barton Springs Pool Located in Zilker Park, Barton Springs is the grand-daddy of local pools. It’s the home to the endangered Barton Springs Salamander, and is listed as a federally protected habitat.

Deep Eddy Pool Visit the oldest swimming pool in Texas! Deep Eddy is a man-made pool built in 1916 and was recently renovated. Be sure to visit Deep Eddy to swim laps or to play with the kids.

Hamilton Pool Reserve Reservations are required to visit this beautiful nature preserve located outside of Austin in Dripping Springs. Be sure to visit the website before planning a trip, but a visit is well worth the effort! 

Blue Hole Regional Park  Visit another natural spring-fed swimming spot in Wimberley. Visit the website as reservations are needed before your trip.  

Krause Springs Located about 30 miles west of Austin in Spicewood, Krause Springs is a camping and swimming site and is listed on the National Registry of Historical Sites. 

El Salido Pool This public swimming pool is located in the Anderson Mill Limited District. This pool has swim lanes, diving boards and a splash pool! 

Springwoods Municipal Pool  Located on Lyndhurst Street in Austin, this public pool is a great place for a picnic and swimming. 

Bartholomew Pool This public pool has a 25 yard lap pool and a high diving board and is located on 51st street in the heart of Austin. 

Big Stacy Pool Located in the Travis Heights area, this popular pool has free admission. Be sure to get there early to avoid the crowds.
